There are many types of fungal skin infections that require clinical care by a physician or other healthcare professional. A child can develop a rash on the finger or hand associated with an infection of the scalp or foot, for instance. In some cases, fungal infections can cause reactions elsewhere on the body. Some fungal infections cause only a small amount of irritation, while other types penetrate deeper and can cause itching, swelling, blistering, or scaling. Sometimes, the normal balances that keep fungi in check are upset, resulting in an infection. Keep your own towel when you have a fungal skin infection to reduce the chance of passing on the fungus to others.Skin fungi live in the top layer of skin cells in moist areas of the body, such as between the toes or in the groin and diaper area.
Do not share towels with people in communal changing rooms. The same creams are used to treat athlete's foot and fungal groin infection (tinea cruris). The fungi from athlete's foot may spread to the groin. In a typical case of athlete's foot, the skin between the toes is itchy and flaky - especially between the outer two toes.
